1. Kennesaw’s First Friday Concert Series

For those looking for fun things to do in Kennesaw, GA keep that first Friday of the month open. Beginning in April, and going on throughout the summer, you can stroll through the Historic Downtown area and listen to some amazing live music. From 6-9 p.m., you can check out the free concert, or spend a little extra to reserve a table for six.

2. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

For the perfect hike, and a nice bit of history, visit Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. This is an almost 3,000 acre preserve of a Civil War battleground. Armies fought here for a few weeks in the summer of 1864.

Start in the Visitor Center to browse the bookstore and check out the museum. Then, get going up the mountain. Terrain is maneuverable by just about any age, although there’s plenty of trail that’s nice and flat within the area.

3. Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History

Situated in a historic barn that was once used for cotton farming, the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History focuses on the Atlanta campaign during the Civil War. The highlight of the museum, the General. This steam engine was once stolen by the Union army and rescued during the Great Locomotive Chase.

4. Kennesaw Depot Park

Right across the street from the Southern Museum, you’ll find Depot Park. Within are most of the regular park amenities, but what makes this space special is the Carrier House and Train Depot.

The Carrier House was built in 1890 by a merchant who operated out of Downtown Kennesaw. The Train Depot was built in 1908 and delivered both freight and passengers. Today, the space is an informative Welcome Center for those looking for things to do in Kennesaw, GA.

5. Smith-Gilbert Gardens

So much more than plants and flowers, Smith-Gilbert Gardens contains close to 3,000 different species of flora and fauna, many native to the region. Walking through the 17 acres of greenery, you’ll also enjoy sculptures, a waterfall, so many daffodils (in the right season), a bonsai exhibit, tea house, and more. It’s a serene stop-over in a pretty busy city.

6. Zuckerman Museum of Art

A part of Kennesaw State University, the Zuckerman Museum of Art is part of the college’s School of Art and Design. The works displayed include pieces from KSU’s permanent art collection as well as contemporary works by locally and nationally-recognized artists. The museum is also regularly used as a source for research and education.

7. Museum of History and Holocaust Education

Another cultural stop within KSU, the Museum of History and Holocaust Education focuses on events that took place during World War II. A unique spotlight is also put on the role Georgians played during the war and how its effects impacted the locals at that time.

8. Swift-Cantrell Park

Coming in at 42 acres, Swift-Cantrell Park is more of a local institution than just a recreational outpost in Kennesaw. In addition to the usual trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds, you’ll find a splash pad, dog park, and skatepark.

9. Town Center

While the majority of places on this list are about history, culture, and the outdoors, we can’t leave out a favorite for those of us who prefer recreational activities that include shopping bags.

Town Center Mall is two stories of department stores, specialty shops, places to eat, and more. It’s also surrounded by even more shops and restaurants, making the entire area a shopper’s paradise.

10. The Nest Kennesaw

At least one favorite place had to be that included a lot of food, and The Nest Kennesaw has something for everyone. Food, beer, and cocktails abound in this casual and fun eatery. There’s also a great outdoor patio for dining al fresco when the weather is right.

With plenty of BBQ and Southern cooking on the menu, it won’t be hard to fill your belly here while having a great time.
